All-State Band

Eligiblity
The
2020-2021 All-State Band will be a virtual experience.  While nothing truly can replace the in-person ensemble, we believe the plans that are being made will make this unique experience a worthwhile event for the selected students.  A video performance of the ensemble will be released to the public via YouTube on Sunday, March 28. Outstanding musicians, who are students of IBA members, in grades 9 -12 are eligible for the All-State Band.  The student must be a member in good standing of his/her school's band program throughout the school year. All participants are required to attend a Zoom sectional rehearsal on Sunday, February 28 and submit their individual performance video recording by Wednesday, March 3. Students must verify their availability.  We ask that students not audition if they cannot make a commitment to these requirements.

Registration Instructions
  1. Directors must register their school for the All-State Band audition event.
  2. Fill out the Director / School Registration.   When you complete the form and press submit, the next screen will show you a “school access code” for you to distribute to your students.
  3. If you teach at more than one school you will need to fill out a registration for each school. Go back to the Director / School Registration and select: Continue an already started All-State Band Application for a new school. Then log back in using the same email address and password.  Then select: Click Here to Start a New Entry for a school not listed above.  You will then receive a different password for the second school.
  4. Next give your students information about the event, where to find the IBA website and the school access code.
  5. Students register individually online by selecting Student Application / Audition Upload.  When a student completes the form and upload you should automatically receive a computer-generated email verifying the registration.  The application and recording upload must be completed at the same time.  The excerpt recordings are individually uploaded.  Students should wait until they have their final recordings of each excerpt before starting the application. The Student Application / Audition Upload window will open December 19 and close January 10.
  6. Each student application / recording upload requires a $10 fee which must be paid online via PayPal.  The student application window will close Sunday, January 10, at 11:59 PM EST.
Requirements

All students auditioning pay a $10.00 entry fee per instrument and are required to play a chromatic scale and 2 etudes for his/her instrument.  The chromatic scales are used to demonstrate the student’s mastery of the full range of the instrument,  A complete list of the books to be used every year is below.  The etudes for all instruments are chosen to discriminate between the very finest players in Indiana.  The purpose of these etudes is to 1) delineate between All-State caliber and non-All-State caliber players, 2) to delineate between All-State Honor Band personnel and All-State Band personnel, 3) to rank players within the sections of each band. (Students who double playing flute/piccolo, Bb clarinet/Eb clarinet, Oboe/English horn or trombone/bass trombone pay one audition fee but perform an additional chromatic scale and one etude on the second instrument.)  Students auditioning may not always be able to play every excerpt perfectly at the tempo indicated.  Each percussionist will be required to prepare etudes  on three  instruments: snare drum, keyboard mallets and timpani.  Percussion applicants pay only one audition fee.
