Eligiblity
The 2020-2021 All-State Band will be a virtual experience. While nothing truly can replace the in-person ensemble, we believe the plans that are being made will make this unique experience a worthwhile event for the selected students. A video performance of the ensemble will be released to the public via YouTube on Sunday, March 28. Outstanding musicians, who are students of IBA members, in grades
9 -12 are eligible for the All-State Band. The student must
be a member in good standing of his/her school's band program
throughout the school year. All participants
are required to attend a Zoom sectional rehearsal on Sunday, February 28 . We ask that students not audition if they cannot make a commitment
to these requirements. |

Audition Requirements |
All students auditioning pay a $10.00 entry fee per instrument and are required to record (audio only - (MP3 or M4A) a chromatic scale and 2 etudes for his/her instrument to upload. The chromatic scales are used to demonstrate the student’s mastery of the full range of the instrument, A complete list of the books to be used every year is below. The etudes for all instruments are chosen to discriminate between the very finest players in Indiana. The purpose of these etudes is to 1) delineate between All-State caliber and non-All-State caliber players, 2) to delineate between All-State Honor Band personnel and All-State Band personnel, 3) to rank players within the sections of each band. (Students who double playing flute/piccolo, Bb clarinet/Eb clarinet, Oboe/English horn or trombone/bass trombone pay one audition fee but perform an additional chromatic scale and one etude on the second instrument.) Students auditioning may not always be able to play every excerpt perfectly at the tempo indicated. Each percussionist will be required to prepare etudes on both snare drum and keyboard mallets. There will be no timpani recording required for the 2021 audition. Percussion applicants pay only one audition fee. |
