Jon Noworyta is in his eighth season as the Artistic Director of the Queen City Freedom Band of Cincinnati, OH. Noworyta is the Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands, Instrumental Activities, and Educational Outreach at the University of Indianapolis. There, he administers all aspects of the woodwind, brass, and percussion area, teaches basic and advanced conducting, courses in music education, and conducts the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Pep Band, and opera. A versatile conductor who is equally comfortable with orchestras as well as wind and brass groups, he is the Music Director of the Crossroads Brass Band of Indianapolis, IN, and the former Assistant Conductor of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. Ensembles under his direction have given notable local, state, national, and international performances, the most significant being Carnegie Hall in 2009, the 2010 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic (rehearsal lab), and the 2012 Music for All National Festival. Noworyta has led groups at legendary venues as Chicago's Symphony Center, the Kennedy Center, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Carnegie Hall.
 
Noworyta’s professional affiliations have included the NAFME, CBDNA, WASBE, NABBA, NBA, Pride Bands Alliance, GLSEN, the Conductors Guild, and the Indiana, Illinois, New York (NYSSMA) and Ohio Music Educators Associations. Noworyta was recently inducted into the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity, is listed among the Who's Who in America Educator's Edition, and is a founding member on the advisory team for the 32,000+ member “Band Director” Facebook group. Noworyta has been published as a contributor to two GIA volumes and is a co-editor for the Indiana Music Educators Association publication “INfORM.”

A Western New York native, Noworyta holds degrees from Baldwin-Wallace University (BME), Northwestern University (MM), and the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati (DMA). Additional study as a participant in conducting workshops at the Eastman School of Music, the New England Conservatory, and the Juilliard School, has given Noworyta the opportunity to work with the major conducting pedagogues in the field today.

 
The membership year is September 1 - August 31. There is a $50 fee for each director/school that may be paid via PayPal (debit card, credit card or PayPal account) or with a school purchase order. Personal checks are not accepted.
Retired directors and first year teachers receive a complimentary membership - no fee.
Collegiate music education majors interested in becoming a band director, also receive a complimentary membership.
2024-2025 Private Teacher Listing Application
For a $10 fee, private teachers may be listed in the IBA directory and receive a copy of the directory and all email updates about events, deadlines, and corrections to the audition music. Each private teacher is asked to indicate the instruments they teach, the schools and/or geographic area they serve and if they would be open to virtual lessons for students not in their area. The membership year is September 1 - August 31. The $10 fee may be paid via PayPal (debit card, credit card or PayPal account) Students will still enter IBA events through their band director.
