is the Indiana affiliate to MENC (Music Educators National Conference).
IMEA offers many educational opportunities for students and for
teachers. Membership is renewable each year and on an individual

sponsors several events for educators including:

The
Indiana Music Educators Association sponsor a free workshop for
music teachers in their first through fifth years of teaching in
November of each year. The workshop has historically been held at
Eidson Duckwall Recital Hall on the Butler University Campus in
Indianapolis.

IMEA
State Convention
This
three-day event for music educators is among the best professional
development opportunities available each year. The event occurs
in late January. Registration is complementary for first year teachers
that are IMEA/MENC members.

Honor Band
This band is open to students in grades 9-12 and is chosen by recommendation
from band directors.
October - Student applications / Director online nomination
forms due.
November - Band is selected, and participants notified.
January - Rehearsal and performance at the IMEA State Convention

IMEA
Non-Competitive Festivals
This performance opportunity for bands and orchestras (Elementary
through High School) involves the written and recorded evaluation
of the group's performance with a 20-minute critique from an experienced
educator following the performance.
February - deadline for registration.
March - Festivals occur in various locations.
